Harbin Far East Institute of Technology was founded in 1994. It was formerly known as Far East College of Harbin University of Science and Technology. In March 2012, it was approved by the Ministry of Education as an independent undergraduate college. Over the past 25 years since its establishment, the college has always cultivated high-quality applied innovative and entrepreneurial talents as the goal of educating people. It closely focuses on the demand for talents in economic and social development, adheres to employment-oriented, committed to international open education, and strives to build a domestic first-class institution.
The main campus of the college is located in the beautiful Songhua Riverside University City of Harbin. The campus covers an area of 530,000 square meters, building area of 252,000 square meters. The Mudanjiang Campus is located in Mudanjiang New District and covers an area of 250,000 square meters, building area is 20,000 square meters. The campus is composed of Roman-style buildings and a complete range of teaching and living facilities, providing a safe, comfortable and convenient living environment for students from all over the world.
The college has 7 teaching faculties, including School of Robotics, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, School of Civil and Architectural Engineering, School of Economics and Management, School of International Education, School of Art and Design, and School of Continuing Education. There are 27 undergraduate majors covering 6 disciplines, including engineering, science, economics, management, literature and arts. Currently Harbin Far East Institute of Technology enrolls more than 9,000 full-time students.
The college has distinctive characteristics of integration of production and teaching.. Focus on the cultivation of applied talents, strengthen practical teaching, and cultivate students' practical ability and innovative spirit. Harbin Far East Institute of Technology is the first university in China to set up a school of robotics. The robot education series developed by the school of robotics and Shanghai Taijing Group has basically realized the industrialization layout in China. The Robot Experience Hall has been established in 11 cities across the country, and it is also used as a student’s off-campus internship training base. Its products development, production and scientific research capabilities in the forefront of the domestic industry.
The college has a strong faculty, implements the strategy of “strengthening the school with talents”, and attaches great importance to the construction of teaching staff and management team. The college has more than 409 staff members, more than 90% of whom have master's or doctoral degrees, and more than 243 of whom have the title of associate professor or above. At the same time, more than 100 well-known enterprises and scientific research institutes have been introduced to form part-time professors with rich academic knowledge and rich teaching experience, forming an excellent faculty with professional professors and associate professors as the main body, with reasonable structure and full-time part-time work. In the past two years, the college teachers have participated in more than 70 research projects at the national and provincial levels, with more than 30 projects in the research project. Published more than 300 papers, published more than 100 monographs and teaching materials, and obtained more than 80 national patents.
The college has perfect internship training conditions, 10 experimental teaching centers such as robot innovation and more than 90 experimental venues. It has built a complete set of practical teaching system with the college education model. Under the guidance of teachers, students can conduct independent innovation experiments or extracurricular scientific and technological activities, which facilitates scientific research activities both inside and outside the course.
College library has simple and elegant architecture, rich collections, more than 810,000 paper books, more than 600 kinds of newspapers and periodicals, 9500GB of electronic resources, with an advanced electronic reading room and literature retrieval database. College sports venues are fully equipped with basketball hall, badminton hall, table tennis hall, rhythmic gymnastics hall, indoor soccer hall, indoor skating hall, gym and other facilities. It has a 400-meter standard plastic track and covers an area of 1.5 hectares of football, volleyball, basketball, regional fitness venues and winter skating venues, and the only high-level archery competition training venue in Heilongjiang Province, fully meet the needs of students' physical education and extracurricular sports activities.
The school attaches great importance to the construction of campus culture, takes Chinese culture as the leading and advocates multicultural integration. The college has established more than 20 communities, such as the Far East Student International Forum, the Students International Art Troupe, Financial Investment Association, Literary Society, Martial arts Society and so on. It regularly hosts Russia, South Korea, Japan and other theme cultural festival. Since 2012, the school has successively hosted six consecutive National Robotic Creative Design Competition, which has become a brand activity of the college, highlighting the school's strong scientific and technological strength.
